Application Specialist (Posted: Oct. 2009)
BioFortis, Inc. is looking for an enthusiastic individual to be a representative for the Labmatrix software platform in front of existing and prospective clients. Based in our Columbia, Maryland office, the Application Specialist will work closely with the Business Development, Technical, and Client Delivery teams. The specific responsibilities will include the following:
Responsibilities:
- Work with the Business Development team members to represent BioFortis' software products in front of prospective scientific end users.
- Work with the Client Delivery team in client specific projects, applying this experience in business development situations.
- Manage, implement, and drive proof of concepts, field trials, and pilots.
- Present and articulate technical concepts and map customer needs to current and future product offerings. Provide product feedback to BioFortis Product Marketing and Engineering.
- Work with sales team to develop responses to RFIs and prepare proposals for customers.
- Work closely with Business Development to strategize on accounts from both a business and technical perspective.
- Capture and document user workflows
- Provide post-sales client support to ensure successful project transition to client support team
Basic Requirements:
- Bachelor's or higher degree with biological or clinical research background
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Accomplished public presentation skills
- Experience with scientific software applications
- Pre-sales experience; history of success in large, complex sales situations a plus
- Additional technical skills in programming, data management, visualization and analysis a plus
- This position may require on average 1-2 days of travel per week, primarily in the US

Java Web Application Developer (Posted: Oct. 2009)
BioFortis, Inc. has an open Web Application Developer position. The primary product platform is a web-based bioscience and clinical informatics software application currently deployed at major government and academic research institutes.
Responsibilities:
- Participate in the design, implementation, and maintenance of web-based software components
- Document product API and architecture
- Design and implement automated tests to insure product quality
- Aid the support team in customer-centric troubleshooting
Basic Requirements:
- B.S. in Computer Science or related major
- Strong Java and SQL programming skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Interest in working with cutting edge technologies
- Highly motivated; eager to learn new skills
Desired Skills:
- Experience with full life-cycle software development
- Knowledge of object-oriented data modeling practices
- Strong understanding of relational database concepts
Experience with some of the following technologies:
- Hibernate
- Spring
- HTML/Javascript
- AJAX
- XML
- EJB
- XUL
- Eclipse
- UML
- JUnit
- Subversion
- Experience in Life Sciences or Biotechnology is a plus
