BioFortis Awarded Incubator of the Year
Company Recognized by Maryland Technology Community
June 20, 2007 —BioFortis has won Maryland’s Incubator of the Year Award, the company announced today. The award, sponsored by Saul Ewing LLP, RSM McGladrey, Inc., Maryland Technology Development Corporation (TEDCO) and Maryland Department of Business & Economic Development (DBED), recognizes significant achievement in technology development, innovation and growth of companies arising from the state’s business incubators. BioFortis was recognized as a successful technology transfer from the Johns Hopkins Medical Institute where the technology behind BioFortis’ flagship product, Labmatrix, was initially developed. The company is a successful graduate of the Emerging Technology Center in Baltimore.
“Labmatrix supports the research that is making personalized medicine a reality,” commented Dr. Ethel Rubin, BioFortis’ Chief Scientific Officer, in accepting the award at the ceremony held in Baltimore’s Center Club on June 20. Rubin further acknowledged BioFortis’ customers, all prestigious research institutions leading cutting-edge studies in multiple therapeutic areas, for their rapid and enthusiastic adoption of the technology. “By seamlessly integrating diverse and disparate datasets, Labmatrix speeds the discovery process and provides a flexible but powerful querying framework that far surpasses the capability of traditional scientific data management tools.” Rubin credits the company’s highly-skilled, multi-disciplinary product development and customer support staff for the success of Labmatrix, which had earlier been a finalist in the Greater Baltimore Committee’s Product of the Year award. The company has benefited from TEDCO and DBED programs and awards, accelerating product development.
